Know the Seller
Make sure they are a valid company - You can do this by using common web search services, look for reviews on the company or statements made by people who have used their services or bought products from them.
Before making purchases or funding online accounts be sure to research the Seller. Look for testimonials online or writes-ups about the Seller, read what people are saying about its practices.
Ask Before You Buy - If you have questions regarding an item or service, contact the seller before making an offer. Some sellers prefer that you ask questions before you buy and good communication will make the transaction smoother for all involved. We at UseMyBank are always available to assist you with suspicious transactions.
E-mail Safety - Phishing
Never give your personal information out when you receive an e-mail that looks like it's from the company or service you already trust. Well known and properly run companies will never ask you to fill out or give information through e-mails sent to you. This is called Phishing, where a scam artist creates a page that looks identical to the seller you commonly know and ask you to provide them personal information usually the e-mail claims your account has been compromised. Do not fill out any web-based surveys from what looks like authentic and legitimate companies.
Check Sellers Security and Privacy Policies
All legitimate Sellers will have a Security and Privacy page that will inform you how your private information is kept and dealt with. Ensure that the seller is certified by credible SSL certificates such as:
Hacker SAFE
ipsCA Secured
Privacy Bot
These are just a few of the available security certificates and seals given to legitimate Sellers who conform to the latest security and privacy standards.
